Hollywood is New Jersey with Celebrities: Jeremy and Jin

Jay Kang absolutely slays it with this piece on current sports sensation Jeremy Lin.  Lin’s taken over the large majority of sports and Asian-American (not mutually exclusive after all!) conversations the past few days.  It will be hard to grasp if you’re not yellow yourself, but Kang’s piece is a great place to start.

The only part I don’t agree with is relating to Lin.  It’s hard for me to relate to any Jesus-worshipping, Harvard graduate, let alone one who also starts for the Knicks.

I got to watch Lin and the Knicks defeat the Jazz yesterday as Lin broke his day-old NBA high score with 28 points and 8 assists.  He is a very solid point guard and I know he will work his ass off to get better.  Even though it’s impossible, I hope the focus on Lin remains on his ball playing for a while longer before he has to carry the “I represent for all yellow people” load on his shoulders.
