The Return of Young Jeezy - Grantland

“I’ve had some trials that would have made the average motherfucker jump out a window a long time ago,” Jeezy had said earlier. “But if you wake up one morning and say, ‘I can’t do it no more,’ then it’s all over. That’s why I wake up every morning and say, let’s do this shit. Let’s get it.”

BILLBOARD: Jimmy Iovine has created a think tank of musicians and wealthy elderly Jewish men, who have decided to reshape what was once known as hip hop.

Iovine told Billboard: “Basically, I only care about money. I eat, sleep and dream this money shit. I’m rich already but I’d shoot my own mother for some more. We’re renaming this shit Ass Music. We will only sign artists who make various references to openly gay fashion designers. We will fool people into thinking gangsta rap is masculine, when in reality there a&r is probably gay, there stylist is gay and their attire is gay. Rick Ross will be the premier artist, with Big Sean & Danny Brown set to follow later this year.

Will I Am ” Yeah, all the beats are gonna be around 120 BPM, real ass shaking shit. Happy happy, synth based music.”

Birdman: Lyrics don’t matter playbwoy. If you ain’t rollin with the gay fashion houses, you don’t matter. Brrrr.

Jay-Z has shown his approval by threatening to blackball anyone using the word bitch in their music.

Justin’s favorite Kanye songs

Kanye West is one of my top 3 favorite artists/musicians/ridiculous human beings!  I’ve probably listened to about 85% of his career musical output and genuinely enjoyed most of them.  Here is an attempt to name my favorite songs he’s done as an artist.

  1. Gone ft. Cam’ron & Consequence
  2. See Me Now ft. Beyonce & Charlie Wilson

OK I realize that I’m horrible at ranking anything besides my couple favorites so that’s what I did.  Although if this list is extended to “music Kanye has touched in some way”, then I’d put all of Ye’s work on Blueprint along with his brilliant rendition of Rich Boy’s “Throw Some D’s”.

Snoop Dogg completely murders Jim Jones’ “Ballin’” on Rap City!  Repping his colors as he always does, Snoop revised the title to “Crippin’”.  Best Snoop performance I’ve seen in ages.

Charlamagne tha God & DJ Envy of The Breakfast Club perform Katy Perry’s “T.G.I.F.”

Really glad I started listening to The Breakfast Club this year, they’re hilarious and have great chemistry between DJ Envy, Charlamagne and Angela Yee.

R. Kelly sings “I Believe I Can Fly” live on X Factor

The contestant does a respectable job, or so I thought, until R. Kelly strolls on in wearing  a double breasted velvet blazer and Buddy Holly glasses.  He proceeded to absolutely murder the performance throwing ad-libs in and everything.

Great song, great performance, great talent, great man

French Montana, Juicy J & Project Pat - Do It

Ill harpsichord on Project Pat’s verse!

Rap Industry Fan Fiction: Drake explains the meaning of Chanukah to Lil Wayne

Best Rap Industry Fan Fiction to date (and just in time for the holidays!):

“So it’s like Christmas, but for Jewish people.”

“What’s that?”

Drake shifted uncomfortably at the head of the Young Money/Cash Money conference room. His power point presentation was not going over very well. He had prepared slides with menorahs and dreidels and everything, though.

“Wait…

The only 2011 projects I listened to the whole thing more than once

Some people put a lot of thought into their end of year lists, but I am definitely not one of them.

  • A$AP Rocky - LiveLoveA$AP (download here)
Best tracks: “Peso”, “Trilla”, “Kissin’ on the Pink”
  • Gucci Mane - Writing on the Wall 2 (download here)
Best tracks: “Brrr (Supa Cold)”, “Camera Ready”, “Hard on a Bitch”
  • Drake - Take Care (download here)
Best tracks: “Take Care”, “Cameras, Good Ones Go”, “Lord Knows”, “Headlines”
  • Frank Ocean - nostalgia,ultra (download here)
    Best tracks: “Novacane”, “Swim Good”
  • Juicy J - Rubbaband Business 2 (download here)
Best tracks: “A Zip and A Double Cup”, “So Damn Fucked Up”, “Pills, Weed & Pussy”

EDIT: Watch The Throne came in underwhelming to me naturally due to the hype surrounding the project and my absolute stan-ning of both stars’ individual careers.  But it’s still a stronger project than most of the 2011 releases - “Niggas in Paris” is a top 3 singles this year.
